BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Former Indiana University swimming standout Cody Miller was named to the U.S. Duel in the Pool National Team this week.
Miller will be joined on the U.S. team by Zane Grothe, a 12-time All-American and U.S. Olympic qualifier at Auburn who is training with the Indiana coaching staff in Bloomington.
"It is a tremendous honor to our team and coaching staff to have both Cody Miller and Zane Grothe selected to represent team USA at Duel in the Pool," Indiana head swimming coach Ray Looze said. "Having the event in our home state is just icing on the cake. Going up against Europe's best will give both young men valuable experience as they prepare for the 2016 Olympic team trials for the US."
Miller is a three-time Olympic Trials qualifier and this past summer, helped the United States earn a gold medal in the 4x100 meter medley relay at the 2015 FINA World Championships.
"Cody and Zane are great representations of how Indiana Hoosier swimming is impacting the US National team on a consistent basis," Looze remarked. "We have now placed swimmers on all the major national teams over the past year (Short Course World Championship, Pan American Games, World University Games, Word Championships, and Duel in the Pool). This is a tremendous accomplishment that only a select few universities can claim, clearly illustrating the role Indiana University is playing on the world swimming stage."
The Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool features Team USA's top swimmers going against the top swimmers from Europe. This year's Duel in the Pool will be held on Dec. 11-12 at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis.
Designed to showcase the sport's most exciting athletes in a short-course meters, dual-meet format, the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool is a made-for-television event that has captivated spectator audiences since its 2003 debut in Indianapolis.
Action from the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool will be televised on Dec. 19 on NBC. Additional broadcast coverage will be announced in the future.
This year will mark the seventh Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, held every other year since the 2003 inception. The U.S. is undefeated and holds a 6-0 all-time record in the competition.
