INDIANAPOLIS – After stellar performances this past weekend against Texas and Florida, Indiana University swimmers Blake Pieroni and Miranda Tucker earned weekly honors from the Big Ten on Tuesday, the league office announced.
Pieroni was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, while Tucker was named the conference's Co-Freshman of the Week.
"Miranda Tucker has been doing a fantastic job for the Hoosiers thus far as a freshman," Indiana head swimming coach Ray Looze said. "She brings a positive attitude, outstanding work ethic, laser focus and is super supportive of her teammates. Blake is quickly becoming one of the better swimmers in the US. His best quality right now is competitiveness. He loves to race and is afraid of no one. With continued development and work on his areas of growth, Blake could do some special things this year. "
In a pair of double-dual meets against Texas and Florida this past weekend, Pieroni set himself apart amongst a very-talented field of swimmers. In total, the sophomore won four individual races over the course of two days.
The Valparaiso, Ind. native won the 100 freestyle (43.69) and 200 freestyle (1:36.06) in NCAA B cut times. Pieroni also touched first in the 200 LCM freestyle (1:4994) and the 100 LCM freestyle (49.93).
For the Hoosier women, Tucker has been fantastic in her first two collegiate meets. Against the Longhorns and Gators, Tucker won one individual event and also had a pair of top-three finishes that were NCAA B cut times.
