BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Teri Moren "Hit The Quan," Tyra Buss emerged out in player intros on a hands free Segway and later nearly defeated Troy Williams in a 3-point contest in front of an Assembly Hall crowd at Hoosier Hysteria.
The 2015-16 Indiana women's basketball season has arrived.
"There's nothing like being at Assembly Hall," head coach Teri Moren told host Catt Sadler. "There's nothing like this event... It's really hard to describe. It's something you have to experience."
Hoosier Hysteria was filled with its usual antics. The women's team held a shootaround to begin the night before later returning for player introductions in their first public appearance of the season.
One by one, the players walked onto Branch McCracken Court to their own personalized player intro music and accompanying dances—some better than others.
Senior Lyndsay Leikem's was the most involved, ending with her teammates acting as photographers, snapping photos of her after being the last player to walk onto the floor. Once together, the team split into groups of two for dances representing different decades.
By the end of the introductions, Moren was dancing to iHeart Memphis' "Hit The Quan."
"Nothing like hitting The Quan, nothing like hitting The Quan," Moren said. "Hey, I practiced that."
Moren spent time learning the dance with sophomore Tia Elbert and studied it watching videos online before debuting it in front of the Assembly Hall crowd.
"It was something that the kids came to me and asked if I'd like to do it," Moren said, "I love this group so much, I said, 'What the heck? Absolutely.'"
In the more competitive portion of the evening, Buss defeated Leikem in the women's 3-point finals 19-15 after being a late addition to the contest. She advanced to the finals between the men and the women, ultimately falling short to Williams in the finals to close out the night.
"I'm the proud mother every day with these guys," Moren said. "The work they're doing in the classroom, the work they're doing here in Cook and Assembly Hall. They're just great human beings. They're just great to be around.
"We enjoy each other's' successes and we're there when we have some setbacks. There's nothing like being a part of a group of young ladies that care about each other, that are invested in each other and most importantly, they're really invested and they love Indiana."
