BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University today announced that over 3,000 students have signed up for the new Crimson Guard Student Rewards Program. The new Crimson Guard Student Rewards Program replaces the old student rewards program previously called the Crimson Club and will offer students points for attending IU sporting events. Those points will make students eligible for prizes and experiences and will factor into student seat and game selection for the 2016-17 men's basketball season. Students can sign up for the Crimson Guard Student Rewards app on their iPhone or Android by visiting iucrimsonguard.com.
"Making the Crimson Guard student section and rewards program all-in-one, is a great way to reward students for attending IU sporting events," said SAB President Samantha Feather. "They can watch their points add-up on their mobile devices which makes it more fun for students. It creates a better home game atmosphere for all fans, and will help the students who regularly attend IU games get better seats and home games for IU men's basketball next season."
The Crimson Guard is the official student section of IU Athletics for all sports except for men's soccer. The Crimson Guard's corresponding rewards program is available through FanMaker and all IU students are eligible to join the Crimson Guard. Students can sign up by visiting iucrimsonguard.com and creating an account which uses their IU e-mail address. Once the account is set-up, students should download the free Crimson Guard Student Rewards app on their Android or iPhone. When students attend athletic events they must open up the Crimson Guard App when they enter the athletic faculty and their Bluetooth and GPS location must be on to connect.
FanMaker technology improves our student loyalty program by allowing students to check in during games without a student ID and be able to track their points on their smartphones; increase fan engagement on social media by giving students points for sharing selected facebook, Instagram, and twitter posts; communicate with students during games by alerting them of specials and sales at concessions stands and the Varsity Shop; and to encourage early arrival by awarding extra points for arriving early to games. This is made possible by beacons placed at the entrance of venues. These beacons are tiny Bluetooth devices that detect a fan's location so that when students walk past a beacon they will be awarded points that will make them eligible for prizes and improve their point total for better seat distribution for men's basketball games. FanMaker will also enable IU Athletics to send intelligent push notifications to students.
