Moren Signs Four to 2016 Recruiting Class

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head women's basketball coach Teri Moren announced the signing of four players to national letters of intent to join the IU program in 2016 as the early signing period began on Wednesday. Three high school seniors in Darby Foresman (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian), Ria Gulley (San Antonio, Texas/Tom C. Clark) and Bre Wickware (Denton, Texas/Guyer) and a junior college player in Bailey Broadnax (Crowley, Texas/Hill College) will arrive in Bloomington next year.
"We are very excited about this incoming class," Moren said. "It is important that we recruit players here to Indiana University that want to excel on the court, in the classroom and as part of the IU community. We are bringing in four outstanding young ladies who are going to make an impact on this program, on the court and off. We are filling a need with size, length and athleticism. All four of them have competed at the highest level. Darby plays on one of the best high school teams in the country, and her AAU team finished second in the prestigious Nike Nationals tournament. Ria and Bre both played for the DFW program that made the final four at the Nike Nationals tournament, as well as successful high school programs. And Bailey competes in one of the toughest junior college regions in the country."
"As talented as these four players are on the court, they are equally as gifted in the classroom," Moren continued. "Indiana's academic reputation helps to bring in the best and brightest young ladies in the country. These four will fit in nicely with our returners next season. We are very excited about the future of Indiana Basketball."
Darby Foresman
6-3 • F • Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian
Foresman is a senior at Heritage Christian High School and plays for head coach Rick Risinger. In the last two seasons Foresman helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back state championships in 2014 and 2015. As a junior, she averaged 8.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting nearly 46 percent from the field. In 2013-14 as a sophomore, Foresman scored 11.3 points per game while grabbing 5.5 rebounds per contest. She played AAU basketball for the Indy Lady Gym Rats and led them to a second place finish at Nike Nationals.
Foresman ranks as the No. 9 post prospect and No. 55 overall in the 2016 class according to ProspectsNation. She is listed as a top 10 power forward by the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report as JumpOffPlus rates her at 4.5 stars. ESPN and ProspectsNation both list her as a 4-star prospect. ESPN also ranks her as the 11th-best player at her position in the class.
"It is always a priority for us to look for the best players in Indiana," Moren said. "We got one of the most complete players with Darby. She gives us great size with a lot of versatility. She has the ability to score with her back to the basket, while also being able to shoot from the perimeter and drive to the basket. Darby's greatest assets are her defense and rebounding. This summer, she guarded some of the best players in the country, both perimeter and post players."
Ria Gulley
5-9 • G • San Antonio, Texas/Tom C. Clark
Gulley is a senior at Tom C. Clark High School and plays for head coach Richard Herbst. She averaged 11.5 points and 3.4 assists per game as a junior while shooting 49 percent from the floor and was an all-district selection in 2014-15. She helped lead Clark to the second round of the Texas state playoffs and a 28-6 record. Gulley also earned first team all-district honors as a sophomore in 2013-14, averaging 8.6 points, 4.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting at a 50 percent clip overall. She is a two-time academic first team all-district honoree. The San Antonio, Texas, native has also excelled in track and field during her high school career, earning all-district honors in that sport as well. She has played AAU basketball for San Antonio Crossover, Sophia Young Elite and DFW Elite T-Jack EYBL.
Gulley is rated as a 3.5-star prospect in the 2016 class by JumpOffPlus and a 3-star player by both ESPN and ProspectsNation.
"Ria is one of the most underrated players in the country," Moren said. "Her combination of quickness and shooting ability give her the potential to be one of the best guards in the Big Ten. Ria has a really good change of pace that allows her to get to the rim. She also has 3-point range, which makes her very difficult to guard. Ria has the ability to be a great perimeter defender who can guard multiple positions."
Bre Wickware
6-1 • F • Denton, Texas/Guyer
Wickware is a senior at Guyer High School playing for head coach Andrea Robinson. Last season, Wickware averaged a double-double at Guyer with 15.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game to go along with 1.5 steals per contest. She is a three time first team all-district honoree and last year earned first team all-area honors. As a freshman in 2012-13, Wickware was named District 5-AAAA Newcomer of the Year. She played AAU basketball for DFW Elite T-Jack EYBL.
Wickware is rated a 3.5-star prospect by ProspectsNation and a 3-star recruit by both ESPN and JumpOffPlus.
"Bre has played with and against the best players in the country," Moren said. "Her experience with the DFW program will allow her to come in and compete for playing time right away. Bre has exceptional length. She is one of the toughest and most competitive players that we saw all summer. Bre has the ability to play on the perimeter or in the post. She is continuing to develop her range which will make her a very good wing player for us."
Bailey Broadnax
6-0 • F • Crowley, Texas/Hill College
Broadnax is a sophomore at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas and is playing for head coach Scott Hyland. As a freshman, Broadnax started 22 games for the Rebels as the team reached the semifinals of the Region V Tournament. Broadnax shot 55.5 percent from the field in 2014-15, averaging 8.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. In high school, she was named district Defensive Player of the Year and twice earned all-district honors.
Dan Olson's Collegiate Girls Basketball Report ranks Broadnax as a top-20 post in the class and the No. 60 overall prospect.
"Bailey brings us experience to the forward position," Moren said. "She is a hard-nosed competitive player. She has a lot of the intangibles that we stress in our program, such as her ability to talk on the floor and her toughness. Bailey has demonstrated the desire to be a great defensive player at every level she has played. She wants the role of guarding the other team's best player."
