Ochsenreiter is the two-time defending high school state champion in Tennessee
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's golf head coach Mike Mayer announced the signing of Brock Ochsenreiter from Nashville, Tennessee, to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday. Ochsenreiter will join the program as a freshman in the fall of 2016.
"We are thrilled to have Brock join our Hoosier golf family," Mayer said. "He is a two-time Tennessee high school state champion and has had great success at the highest level of national junior golf. We expect Brock to compete for a top spot on our team and make an immediate positive impact on our program both athletically and academically. He is everything we are looking for in a Hoosier athlete and has a strong supportive family. Brock is perfect fit for Indiana University."
Ochsenreiter (pronounced 'OXEN-writer') is the two-time defending Division II-AA state champion at Ensworth High School in Tennessee. Last month, he won his second state title with rounds of 66 and 73 on his way to being named First Team All-Tennessee Mid-State for the second straight year.
He is ranked 162nd ranked junior overall and 65th in the class of 2016 according to the AJGA Polo rankings in addition to being ranked as the No. 4 golfer in the state of Tennessee by Golfweek. He has helped the west team to a pair of Tennessee Junior Cup titles and has a 4-2 mark in match play at the event.
"I chose Indiana because it was the one school where I really clicked," Ochsenreiter said after signing his NLI at Ensworth High School. "After I visited, I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to go there because of my future teammates and coaches. I wanted to go somewhere I knew I could play right away and get a very good education on top of that. The one thing that I'm most looking forward to is the traveling with the golf team. I will have to opportunity to go play in places that I haven't been to yet and play golf with some of the best golfers in the nation."
On the junior circuit over the summer, he posted a number of very strong finishes, including multiple top 10s. A couple of highlights include a fifth place finish at the Scott Robertson Invitational with rounds of 72-67-70 and a seventh place finish at the Bubba Conlee National with scores of 73-68-72.
Before moving to Nashville prior to his sophomore year of high school, Ochsenreiter played as the No. 1 golfer on his team at Fort Walton Beach High School in Florida. He was named All-Area Northwest Florida as a freshman and posted a 2-1 match play record in the Panhandle Cup. He also helped guide the Northwest Florida Junior team to state titles in 2012 and 2013 and was the youngest player selected to the Florida Junior Cup in 2013.
Ochsenreiter is the son of Don and Kelly and has three older siblings.
