Mary Campbell begins a series of blog entries detailing the Hoosiers' trip to Barcelona
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Water Polo team will spend their Thanksgiving Break in Barcelona, Spain this year. The Hoosiers have set off on a one-week trip to take in the sights provided by the Catalonian capital, while also playing a handful of exhibition contests against professional Spanish water polo clubs. Several members of the team will recount their experiences throughout the week, and we'll share their blog entries each day of their trip.
Up first, senior goalkeeper Mary Campbell will discuss the series of flights from Indianapolis to Barcelona on Saturday, November 21:
Day One: The Transatlantic Voyage
"We set off to JFK on Saturday morning, after I ate multiple bagels and blew my per diem on Starbucks holiday drinks. The flight attendants wished us good luck over the intercom and we cheered, while the passengers around us turned to one another and asked their seat partner, "What's water polo?" I was lucky enough to sit next to Kerrie (Kozokar) and Jojo (Jordan Elwood), and we played rummy the entire two-hour flight.
"At JFK, I had the best Panini of my life, and Mackenzie Bonk accidentally spilled all of her snacks on the floor.
"On the flight to Paris, I was fortunate enough to sit next to Candyce (Schroeder) and Jenny (Beadle), with whom I played Who Wants to be a Millionaire, which turned out to be "Who wants to win $64,000 because we could only get past the first 11 questions".
"Even though most people were extremely excited to be on our way, most people fell asleep. Ellie (Stott) and I, however, decided to stop crime instead of sleep, and we caught someone smoking on the flight and tattled on him. We were then awarded the purple badge of Air France, which was an extra Biscoff cookie.
"Finally, we embarked on our last flight to Barcelona, where everyone passed out and prepared for a long day of sightseeing."
