Kate Pipkin continues a series of blog entries detailing the Hoosiers' trip to Barcelona
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Water Polo team will spend their Thanksgiving Break in Barcelona, Spain this year. The Hoosiers are on a one-week trip to take in the sights provided by the Catalonian capital, while also playing a handful of exhibition contests against professional Spanish water polo clubs. Several members of the team will recount their experiences throughout the week, and we'll share their blog entries each day of their trip.
In this edition, freshman attacker Kate Pipkin will review the team's trips to various restaurants in Barcelona on Sunday, November 22:
Day Two: Spanish Cuisine
"Today, we arrived in Barcelona around 9:30 and took a bus to our hotel. We changed and then walked around to eat and see some of the city.
"What stood out to me was all of the beautiful architecture, and the attitudes of the restaurant owners and people. The buildings are all so intricate and historical, towering above your head as you walk through the tight alleyways.
"For lunch, we went to a small restaurant and had some unusual but delicious dishes, such as octopus and paella (a traditional rice and meat dish). The man who served us was so friendly and patient with our borderline-proficient Spanish.
"After that, we headed back to our hotel for a much-needed nap to recoup before dinner. At around 8:00, we headed out to look for somewhere to eat, when a man serving tables on a patio across from the restaurant flagged us down.
"We sat down, and were somewhat at a loss of what to order because of all the new and foreign items listed on the menu. Our meals consisted of paella, tapas (small portions of savory dishes), pizza, skewers, and seafood. We finished off with plates of cheesecake, creme brûlée, chocolate cake, parfaits, and pudding.
"As much as I love playing tourist, I'm excited for our first day in the water tomorrow morning and then for a game in the evening! ¡Me encanta Barça!"
