Emily Lowe continues a series of blog entries detailing the Hoosiers' trip to Barcelona
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Water Polo team will spend their Thanksgiving Break in Barcelona, Spain this year. The Hoosiers are on a one-week trip to take in the sights provided by the Catalonian capital, while also playing a handful of exhibition contests against professional Spanish water polo clubs. Several members of the team will recount their experiences throughout the week, and we'll share their blog entries each day of their trip.
In this edition, sophomore attacker Emily Lowe will recaps a bit of sightseeing and their first day in the water on Monday, November 23:
Day Three: Taking the Pool
"To a girl who has never been outside the United States before, Barcelona has been an absolutely awesome experience so far.
"Today was our first day of practice at the Club de Natacio Barcelona. The pool was amazing—it's right on the beach! After practice, we walked back to the hotel, stopping at the beach to take pictures, of course.
"After our pit stop at the hotel, we began exploring the city of Barcelona. We found an open-air market full of fruits, vegetables, and meat stands where some of the chicken still had feathers on them. It was here that we drank the freshest fruit juice and ate the best empanadas in all of Barcelona (at least in my opinion)!
"After the market, we walked to a museum, which was actually a house built by a famous architect named Gaudi in 1904. It was a beautiful house with very unique architecture. Coincidentally, it was designed to make you feel like you were underwater, which was very fascinating for us water bugs.
"We ended the day with a scrimmage against a club team from Spain. It was a very challenging, hard-fought game in which we became better players.
"Overall it was a great day, and I cannot wait for tomorrow!"
