Jordan Elwood continues a series of blog entries detailing the Hoosiers' trip to Barcelona
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Water Polo team will spend their Thanksgiving Break in Barcelona, Spain this year. The Hoosiers are on a one-week trip to take in the sights provided by the Catalonian capital, while also playing a handful of exhibition contests against professional Spanish water polo clubs. Several members of the team will recount their experiences throughout the week, and we'll share their blog entries each day of their trip.
In this edition, junior attacker Jordan Elwood describes the Hoosiers' second match of the week, and awe felt from seeing Gaudi's work in person, on Tuesday, November 24:
Day Four: Buffets, Basilicas, and Barça Water Polo
"Today started off with a delicious € 9 all you can eat buffet. They might have regretted saying all you can eat to a group of girls that can chow down!
"After eating almost our body weight in delicious food, we walked about two kilometers to the pool we have dubbed home. We practiced, and then walked back to the hotel to drop off our stuff to refuel for a fun trip to the Basilica de Sagrada Familia.
"We could not believe the beautiful and height of this historical building built by Gaudi. To say the least, we fan-girled hard and took many selfies. We then proceed to walk, what felt like miles (which was actually about 5miles), up a hill that made our calves look on point.
"At the end of this hill was the Park Güel, another amazing Gaudi exhibit that featured beautiful mosaic architecture everywhere. Gaudi was a genius with bringing colors together and creating buildings that are still being built to this day. After drooling over these beautiful pieces of art we took the metro back to the hotel.
"After a little resting time, we headed out to do what we do best—play some water polo. We played Club Natacio Rubi and it was a great match. They were very welcoming and made us feel like we were all old friends.
"Overall it was a great day of sightseeing and playing in the pool. We clocked in about 10 miles of walking today and that gives us the green light to eat as much gelato as our hearts desire. ¡Buenos noches, Hoosiers!
