Bronwyn Smith continues a series of blog entries detailing the Hoosiers' trip to Barcelona
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Water Polo team will spend their Thanksgiving Break in Barcelona, Spain this year. The Hoosiers are on a one-week trip to take in the sights provided by the Catalonian capital, while also playing a handful of exhibition contests against professional Spanish water polo clubs. Several members of the team will recount their experiences throughout the week, and we'll share their blog entries each day of their trip.
In this edition, junior center Bronwyn Smith describes the Hoosiers' second match of the week, and awe felt from seeing Gaudi's work in person, on Wednesday, November 25:
Day Five: Catalonian Cuisine
"We came to Barcelona to play water polo. Fortunately, we still get lots of time to be tourists. My favorite tourist activity is eating.
"Barcelona (also known as Flavor Town) has so many cool, new foods to try. I had some seafood paella that I could eat off a flip-flop. The crepes here are on point. I've had to hunch over some to keep the chocolate sauce from getting all over my shirt.
"Another thing we've gotten to try are tapas, or small plates that are meant to share. This means I get to try even more different things. Patatas Fritas have been some of my favorite. It's a righteous dish with deep fried potatoes and a spicy aioli sauce.
"One of the best parts is having so many food options available. For example: if you want homemade gelato at 10 am, you have about 30 different options. That's full throttle. The good news is that we are walking to all these great food establishments, so we will still fit on the plane on the way home.
"Our day isn't over until we swim off our meals with a game. We had a great scrimmage against Club Natació Sant Feliu. No score was kept but both our offense and defense looked strong."
