
Hoosiers Fall to Ohio in Nashville, 63-56

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana fell to Ohio in the opening round of the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday afternoon, 63-56. The Bobcats used an 8-0 run in the game's final 2:40 to earn the victory.
Three Hoosiers scored in double figures led by Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill who each tallied 14 points. Freshman Kym Royster added a career-high 11 points.
Indiana (3-2) struggled offensively all afternoon, hitting just 28.8 percent of its shots but stayed in the game thanks to nailing 18-of-23 free throws.
Ohio (3-1) used an early 10-1 run to take a 14-7 advantage with 2:37 remaining in the first quarter. Indiana later responded with back-to-back 3-point field goals from Cahill and Lyndsay Leikem before an OU turnover led to a pair of free ones from Alexis Gassion. The Bobcats led by just one at the end of the first quarter.
Jess Walter scored to start the second quarter for Indiana to cap a 12-4 IU run to regain the lead at 19-18. Indiana would hold Ohio scoreless for the final 4:25 of the second quarter and take a 32-29 edge into the locker room.
The Bobcats came out of the break scoring the first four points of the third quarter to take back the lead. Royster began to assert herself as the Indiana freshman scored seven points in the third period, including completing a three-point play to cut the deficit to 43-41 with 3:31 on the clock. OU went on to take a 47-44 lead into the fourth quarter.
Ohio stretched its lead to six on three different occasions early in the final quarter, including a 55-49 edge with a layup with 6:07 to go. The Hoosiers then began to scratch their way back into the game using a 7-0 surge with a field goal from Gassion and free throws from Cahill and Buss to regain the lead at 56-55 at the 3:02 mark.
That lead would be Indiana's last of the contest as Ohio scored eight-straight points to end the game and take the win.
Cahill shot 5-of-7 from the field and added seven rebounds. Lyndsay Leikem led Indiana with nine rebounds as Alexis Gassion added seven points.
The Hoosiers will take on Austin Peay in the consolation game of the tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET inside Memorial Gymnasium.
