Kaybree Albright continues a series of blog entries detailing the Hoosiers' trip to Barcelona
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Water Polo team will spend their Thanksgiving Break in Barcelona, Spain this year. The Hoosiers are on a one-week trip to take in the sights provided by the Catalonian capital, while also playing a handful of exhibition contests against professional Spanish water polo clubs. Several members of the team will recount their experiences throughout the week, and we'll share their blog entries each day of their trip.
In this edition, freshman center Kaybree Albright recaps the team's final full day in Barcelona on Friday, November 27:
Day Seven: One More Day in Barcelona
"Today, sadly, was our last full day in the beautiful city of Barcelona. Needless to say, we had a packed day trying to fit everything in before we leave.
"We started off the day with a trip to the local market. When we got there, we headed straight to our favorite spot—the fruit juices (2€ for two juices, what a deal!). We then proceeded to explore the rest of the market, staring in awe of all the candy and holding our breath while walking past the fish section hoping to not lose our appetites.
"After getting back from the market, we began our trip to the infamous Sagrada Família. We decided to walk there (about 5 kilometers) so we could take in all of Barcelona before we leave. The Sagrada Família was absolutely breathtaking. We were all in awe of the intricate details and how the sunlight cast through the stained glass windows, allowing a rainbow of colors to illuminate the inside.
"We took the metro back to the hotel to grab our suits and walk over to the beach. The water was freezing and we all eventually went numb, but even on our day off you can't keep us out of the water. After body surfing and enjoying being in the Mediterranean Sea (the first time for me and a couple others) we headed back to the hotel.
"To finish the day, we headed over to a cooking class Barry had set up for us. We separated into three tables where we were assigned different tasks to prepare traditional Spanish dishes. Together we made tomato bread, Spanish omelets, butternut squash soup, seafood paella, and creme brûlée for dessert. The food we made was incredible! Not to mention we had a blast making fun of each other's cooking techniques (or lack there of).
"Overall, our last day here was incredible and I for one am sad we are already flying home tomorrow—this week went by too fast!"
