No. 1 Wake Forest Edges No. 16 Hoosiers, 1-0, in NCAA Tournament

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 1 Wake Forest Demon Deacons scored in the 88th minute to edge the No. 16 Indiana Hoosiers, 1-0, in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C.
With the loss, Indiana finishes the 2015 season with a record of 13-5-3. Wake Forest (17-2-2) advances to play the winner of Stanford and Ohio State.
The first shot of the match came in the 14th minute and nearly resulted in a goal for the Hoosiers. IU's Andrew Gutman made a great run down the right side of the 18-yard box, cracking a left-footed shot from seven yards that clanked off the near post, missing the match's first goal by inches.
In the 39th minutes, Indiana had another shot go off the left post. After Wake Forest was unable to clear the ball out of the box off a long throw, Femi Hollinger-Janzen's one-timer from 13 yards out that ricocheted off the far post and out for a Wake goal kick.
With just under two minutes left in the first half, the Hoosiers had another shot at goal. At midfield, Matt Foldesy played a great pass over the top to Ben Maurey on the right side of the 18-yard box. Maurey did well to beat his defender to find space, but his shot from six yard out was saved at the near post.
At the break, the match was tied at 0-0. Indiana had an incredibly impressive defensive first half, limiting the No. 1 Demon Deacons to just one shot and no shots on goal. IU had four shots in the opening 45 minutes with one going on goal and two hitting the post.
Indiana had the first good look at goal in the second half, coming just five minutes in. Working on the right side, Foldesy cracked a right-footed shot from 15 yards out on the right side, just missing wide of the far post.
As the second half winded down, the Demon Deacons were able to break through in the 88th minute. Wake Forest's Ricky Greensfelder scored the match winner, netting a goal from 12 yards out on the left side.
Indiana furiously sent players forward in the final two minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer, falling to the No. 1-ranked Demon Deacons, 1-0.
For the match, the Hoosiers out-shot Wake, 7-5, with IU getting two shots on goal to just one for the Demon Deacons. Corner kicks were 3-1 in favor of Indiana.
The 2015 season was another successful one for the Indiana Hoosiers. The team earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the 29th-straight season – the 40th overall for the program.
