BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the third time this season, the Hoosiers have multiple recipients of the Big Ten Conference's weekly accolades.
Senior defender Sydney Supica received the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, her first defensive honor and second weekly conference honor of her career. Noëlle Rother was named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week, her third such honor this season.
Supica amassed a player-of-the-game performance in Friday's Senior Day matchup at home against Rutgers. The senior defender delivered in the clutch on offense, scoring a goal in the first half on a penalty corner and connecting on an assist in the second half to Kate Barber. Supica also played a key role for the Indiana defense, which recorded their third shutout of the regular season.
Rother added a third shutout to her dominating freshman campaign in last Friday's 2-0 win over Rutgers, Indiana's third shutout in their last five games. The freshman recorded eight saves in the contest, including a crucial stick save on a penalty stroke in the first half. The award is Rother's fourth weekly honor of the season, setting a school record for single-season weekly honors.
The Hoosiers' shutout win over Rutgers was the first win against the Scarlet Knights in program history. The win also lifted Indiana to its fifth win in Big Ten play this season, a program best for conference wins.
Indiana returns to their home turf this weekend, as they play host to the 2015 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament. The third-seeded Hoosiers face off against sixth-seed Penn State in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, November 5 at 5:30 pm ET. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
