Two Junior College Standouts Join IU Football Program

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head football coach Kevin Wilson announced Wednesday the signing of two junior college student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Quarterback Richard Lagow (Plano, Texas/Cisco Community College) and defensive back Jayme Thompson (Toledo, Ohio/Iowa Western Community College) are the newest members of the Hoosiers program.
"We were limited to two mid-year spots in this recruiting cycle, and signing Richard and Jayme is a great opportunity for them and for our program," Wilson said. "They will get a chance to practice prior to our bowl trip and will be here on January 1. We are excited to get to work with them and pleased to welcome them to IU."
Lagow, the top-ranked, pocket-passing junior college quarterback by ESPN, threw for 2,285 yards with 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2015. He completed 66 percent (175-of-265) of his passes en route to Southwest Junior College Football Conference honorable mention accolades.
In 2014, he passed for 2,221 yards and averaged 353.5 per game with 17 TDs and seven interceptions. Lagow redshirted the 2013 season at Oklahoma State University.
The 6-6, 240-pounder completed 109-of-182 and racked up 1,968 yards during his senior campaign at Plano High School. Lagow rushed for 12 scores and added eight through the air. He earned first team all-district honors, as he led Plano to the Conference 5A Division I playoffs.
Thompson is rated the No. 2 junior college safety by 247Sports and the No. 44 junior college prospect by Rivals. He helped Iowa Western to a 10-2 record and a victory in the 2015 Graphic Edge Bowl.
The 6-2, 195-pounder posted 81 tackles (3rd on the team), three for loss, with two interceptions and four pass breakups in 2014. Iowa Western went 11-1 and advanced to the national championship game.
Thompson redshirted the 2013 season at Ohio State University after he was a consensus four-star prospect (ESPN, Rivals, Scout, 247Sports) and among the top 250 prospects nationally (No. 204 on the Rivals 250 and No. 218 on the ESPN 300) coming out of Central Catholic High School.
ESPN's top safety in Ohio and the No. 12 prospect in the state played in the All-American Bowl. He led Central Catholic to the 2012 Division II state title and a 14-1 record. An Associated Press All-State selection, Thompson posted 48 tackles, an interception and two fumble recoveries.
