Hoosier Open Preview

Indiana will play host to the Hoosier Open on Friday, December 11th at the Gladstein Fieldhouse. The meet will be the season opener for the Hoosiers and will consist of four full teams and a handful of other programs sending individuals to compete. The four teams competing in the meet will be Kentucky, Tennessee, Purdue, and, of course, Indiana. Individuals from schools such as New Mexico, Portland, Oklahoma State, and many others will compete in the 5,000 meter run, which kicks off the meet at 4:30PM.
Field events will start at 3:45PM. Horizontal throws lead off the field events, followed by jumps at 5:00PM. The 60m sprint trials begin at 4:50PM, and the finals will be run an hour later at 5:50PM. The meet will conclude with the 4x400m relay which begins at 8:45PM.
Indiana will feature many freshman athletes this Friday. Coach Ron Helmer is excited to see how the young athletes respond to the intensity and increased pressures of a collegiate meet. Coach is hopeful that the upperclassmen on the team will become leaders and pave the way for the freshman to not only have a successful first meet, but a successful first season.
