ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the 2015 fall sports and the Indiana Women's Soccer team placed 14 student-athletes on the list, tied for fourth-most in the conference.
This year, every single eligible member of the team earned the recognition. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a letterwinner during the 2015 season and be in at least the second year at the institution.
"To have these student-athletes recognized by the Big Ten is a true testament to their hard work throughout the whole year, as well as the dedication of our excellent academic advisor, Eileen O'Rourke," said Indiana head coach Amy Berbary. "Her encouragement and commitment to our team pushes our players to excel in the classroom."
Of the 14 IU honorees, seven are receiving the accolade for at least the second time in their careers, led by Jessie Bujouves, Rachel Romero and Sarah Stone, who have earned the honor for three straight seasons.
Marissa Borschke, Veronica Ellis, Katie Greulich and Lauren Joray have now been honored twice, while Kailee Feinstein, Kylie Kirk, Ari Kowalski, Annelie Leitner, Kayla Smith, Kayleigh Steigerwalt and Nickie Zuckerman are first-time recipients.
In addition, Zuckerman was specially recognized for having an unblemished grade point average.
The academic honor is the latest for the Hoosiers, who earlier this year were awarded the 2014-15 NSCAA Team Academic Award for the fourth consecutive season.
