PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Indiana Hoosiers water polo team suffered it's third and fourth losses of the Stanford Invitational on Sunday. Number two ranked UCLA defeated Indiana 11-4 and No. 18 UC Davis won 9-5.
In the Hoosiers game against UCLA, IU got behind early after two Bruins' goals in the first two minutes. After two goals by Colleen McNaught, one by Sarah Young and another by UCLA, the Hoosiers pulled even at three a piece in the middle of the second quarter.
In the last three minutes of the half, the Bruins pulled away by scoring three goals and never looked back. McNaught added a third goal in the third quarter and was the leading scorer in the game.
Against the Aggies of UC Davis, the Hoosiers got on the board first with a goal just one minute into the game. Indiana kept it close for most of the game, being tied 4-4 with less than three minutes left in the third quarter. In the final 10 minutes of the game, UC Davis outscored Indiana 5-1 to take the win 9-5. Candyce Schroeder led the Hoosiers with two goals, both coming in the second quarter.
Indiana water polo will be in action again next weekend (February 7-8) at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey.
