BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women’s cross country team was named an All-Academic team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Wednesday. Sophomore Matt Schwartzer earned individual All-Academic recognition from the organization.
To receive all-academic team recognition, a team must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or greater. The Hoosiers posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.47 during the fall semester.
Individual honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have finished in the Top-15 finishers (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
Schwartzer, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., finished in ninth place to earn All-Region honors at the Great Lakes Regional Championships. Schwartzer went on to compete with the men’s cross country team at the NCAA Championships and was the highest finisher for the Hoosiers in 43rd place, a 38-spot improvement from his run the previous season at NCAAs.
As a team the Hoosiers finished 15th at the NCAA Championships and have finished in the top-15 in four of the last five years.
Schwartzer is currently pursuing a business degree in Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation.
Schwartzer and the Hoosiers host the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Friday Feb. 13, at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
