ROSEMONT, Ill.. -- Indiana, winner of back-to-back Big Ten regular season and tournament championships, was selected by the conference coaches to finish fourth in 2015. The Big Ten coaches voted on the top six teams and also selected three student-athletes from their own squads to a Players to Watch list.
Representing Indiana on the list are redshirt senior outfielder Scott Donley, junior pitcher Scott Effross and redshirt senior pitcher Ryan Halstead.
Donley enters 2015 with two First Team All-Big Ten selections under his belt. The Crown Point, Ind., native batted .383 in league play last season to rank second in the Big Ten, while he also ranked fifth in slugging percentage (.484), tied for fifth in doubles (16) and in the Top 10 in four other categories.
Effross, Indiana's Opening Day pitcher on Friday at Stanford, is coming off an Indiana record 32 appearances that led the conference in 2014. As a sophomore, Effross was eighth in the Big Ten with five saves, the 10th-best mark in IU history.
Halstead, who redshirted after four appearances in 2014 due to season-ending knee surgery, owns IU's career record with 23 saves. In 2013, Halstead broke the all-time school record with 11 saves and was a third team All-Big Ten selection.
Indiana opens the season Friday at Stanford at 6 p.m. ET (TV: Pac-12 Network).
