BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Shots were falling all over Assembly Hall for Indiana on Wednesday night as the Hoosiers downed Illinois, 85-58. IU shot 55.2 percent for the game and nailed 13 3-point field goals in the rout.
Four players scored in double figures for Indiana led by Amanda Cahill's double-double performance of 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also added a career-high five blocks, a career-high tying three steals to go along with three assists. She shot 6-of-8 from the field.
Larryn Brooks added 14 points for the Hoosiers with five assists as Karlee McBride scored 13 points. Tyra Buss finished with 11 points, four assists and three steals.
The Hoosiers dished for 23 assists on their 32 made field goals. IU has had 20 or more assists in eight games this year.
Indiana blew the game open when it held the Illini without a field goal for a stretch of 10:12 combining the end the first half and into the second, outscoring Illinois 19-3 during that span. The Hoosiers led by as many as 31 points in the game.
Early on, back-to-back Indiana 3-point field goals from Brooks and Cahill gave IU a 10-7 edge before a 9-2 run pushed the Hoosier lead to 23-16 with 10:38 left in the half.
Illinois cut that deficit to four, but consecutive treys from Jess Walter and McBride opened up Indiana's lead to 10, 33-23, with 6:41 remaining. IU would take a 44-31 edge into the halftime break.
The Hoosiers shot 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the field in the first half, the team's best shooting percentage in a half this season.
IU outscored Illinois 17-3 to begin the second stanza and nailed 6-of-10 3-point field goals in the final 20 minutes.
Wednesday's win gave Indiana its largest margin of victory over a Big Ten opponent since Feb. 1, 2007 in an 83-56 defeat of Wisconsin in Assembly Hall. IU's 55.2 percent shooting against Illinois is the program's best shooting percentage in a conference game since shooting 57.7 percent against the Illini a year ago on Feb. 22, 2014.
Indiana connected on 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) 3-point field goals in the game, trying for the second most 3-point field goals ever made in a single game in program history. In IU's last two games, the Hoosiers combined to shoot 52.2 percent from 3-point range having connected on 24-of-46 attempts from long distance.
The Hoosiers will finish the regular season with four of the final five contests on the road, beginning at No. 14/13 Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. ET.
