IU Opens with 4-2 Win at #18 Stanford

The Hoosiers took their first lead of the season in the top of the second inning on the first of two runs batted in for junior Nick Ramos, allowing senior Scott Donley to score.
Stanford used consecutive doubles to get on the board in the fourth inning to deadlock the score at one until the seventh inning.
After Brian Wilhite walked with two outs on the board in the seventh inning, senior Casey Rodrigue belted his first career home run to right field, giving IU a 3-1 lead it would add on to in the following inning and not relinquish.
Ramos picked up his second RBI in the eighth inning as senior Brad Hartong scored.
Stanford threatened in the final inning after IU put two outs on the board. The Cardinal recorded three consecutive singles to score and had two runners on base before J. Locher fouled out to first base.
Junior Scott Effross picked up his 12th career win for the Hoosiers, tossing three strikeouts and allowing just one run in six innings of work.
TURNING POINT
Casey Rodrigue's first career home run gave Indiana the momentum in the seventh inning and proved to be the difference in the final score.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Scott Effross turned in career highs of six innings pitched and 23 batters faced, while allowing just one run and throwing 60 strikes in 80 pitches. At the time of his departure, IU and Stanford were knotted at one with a chance to win on the road.
