GREENVILLE, S.C. -- No. 22 Indiana committed a season-high five errors and dropped its first game at the First Pitch Invitational to Presbyterian College on Friday afternoon, 5-2.
The Hoosiers racked up six of their nine hits in the first three innings, but left four on base and scored two runs, both of which came in the top of the third.
IU came out swinging in the stanza with Casey Rodrigue, Will Nolden and Brad Hartong blasting singles. Hartong advanced to second on a fielding error on his hit and was credited with an RBI on Rodrigue's score, while Nolden also came home on the play for a 2-0 advantage.
But things went Presbyterian's way from there on out. Presbyterian starting pitcher matched his career high with nine strikeouts, two of which came in the third inning after IU's two runs.
Indiana recorded three of its errors and allowed a pair of hits as Presbyterian established a 3-2 lead that it would not surrender, solidifying its lead with two more runs in the seventh frame.
Dees picked up the win, while Indiana junior Scott Effross moved to 1-1. Effross pitched six innings and struck out three for the second straight outing.
