CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 44 Indiana men’s tennis team fell 7-0 on the road at No. 6 Illinois on Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center.
“It was a tough environment and we didn’t match their energy that they created,” IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. “I think this match will go a long way to helping us handle this next time and now we have to go back to the practice courts and get ready for two matches on Wednesday.”
Illinois (11-2) took the doubles point against the Hoosiers (6-2) with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
In singles the Illini came out and won the first set in all six singles matches en route to clinching the victory.
“I think we took a lot from this match,” Wurtzman said. “We are going to go back and work hard so this does not happen again. We played one of the best teams in the country today and that is where we are trying to get to.”
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Louisville, Ky., where they take on Toledo on Wednesday Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. ET and host Louisville at 6:00 p.m. ET.
