EVANSTON, Ill. -- Despite a double-double from sophomore Troy Williams, the Indiana basketball team fell to Northwestern on Wednesday evening, 72-65.
Williams scored 21 points while pulling down a career-high 14 rebounds to record his fifth career double-double. Nick Zeisloft knocked in 4-of-5 3-pointers in the first half to score 12 points, while Kevin Yogi Ferrell and Robert Johnson each added 11 points.
Freshman James Blackmon Jr. started the game's scoring with a 3-pointer, the first of nine triples for Indiana (19-10, 9-7 Big Ten) in the half as the Hoosiers shot 64.3 percent from downtown in the opening period.
Behind the hot shooting of Zeisloft, Indiana jumped out to a 4-point lead with 8:01 left to play in the half before Northwestern (14-14, 5-10 Big Ten) tied it up at 40-40 heading into the locker room.
Williams, who scored 14 of his points in the second half, nailed his fourth 3-pointer of the season early in the period, however the Wildcats used a 13-0 run early in the half to take control of the game. Tre Demps scored nine points during that stretch and finished the game with 23 points.
Down by 14 points with 4:09 left on the clock, Indiana went on a 6-0 run led by two buckets from Williams and a layup by Johnson to cut the deficit to eight points with 2:12 remaining.
The Hoosiers would score 15 points in the final 3:17 of the game, but wouldn't get closer than five points as the Wildcats secured the game at the free throw line.
The Hoosiers return to Assembly Hall on Tuesday as they play host to the Iowa Hawkeyes at 7 p.m.
