LAST TIME OUT
Indiana traveled to Cathedral City, Calif. last weekend for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Hoosiers dropped all five games on the weekend.
After falling to No. 8 Georgia on Friday morning, Indiana battled No. 12 UCLA to a tough 7-4 loss. Three Hoosiers hit a home run in the game, including freshman Taylor Uden who recorded her first career homer.
UTILIZING UDEN
Uden has had a fast start to her Indiana career and continued it last weekend, scoring three runs on five hits for the Hoosiers. The Glendale, Ariz. - native has started all 15 games at shortstop and is first on the team in runs scored with 11. Uden is tied for fourth in the Big Ten in doubles with four and tied for second in walks with 13. For her work in the infield, the freshman is tied for eighth in the conference in assists with 26 on the year.
MENA COMING UP BIG
Freshman Mena Fulton also had a big weekend in Cathedral City, starting three games at third base. The Bloomington native recorded her first career hit against Loyola Marymount on Feb. 20 and her first career run against BYU on Feb. 21. Fulton finished the weekend with four hits, including a 2-for-3 effort versus BYU.
DOTSON GOING LONG
Junior Kelsey Dotson smacked two home runs during the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, sending it over the fence in back-to-back games against No. 12 UCLA and Loyola Marymount. In addition to her two-run homer against LMU, Dotson also connected on a double.
HAILING FROM FLORIDA
Alyssa Rosati hails from Clearwater, Fla., just about 100 miles from the site of the Citrus II Classic. The junior has scored two runs in six appearances this season.
BATTLING THE BULLDOGS
The Hoosiers open up play in the Citrus II Classic against a familiar foe in Georgia, a team that ranks No. 8 with a 12-2 start to the year with the only two losses coming against No. 25 Texas and No. 24 Notre Dame. The Bulldogs did pick up a big 6-5 win against No. 4 Oklahoma on Friday. Last week, the Hoosiers dropped a 9-1 decision against the Bulldogs in California.
MEETING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS
Indiana's second opponent of the weekend, Lehigh, has yet to play a single game this season. The Mountain Hawks' games in North Carolina last weekend were cancelled due to weather issues. Last season, Lehigh finishes the year with a record of 30-20.
This is the first matchup in program history between the two schools.
GOING AGAINST GEORGETOWN
The first Indiana game on Saturday pits the Hoosiers against Georgetown. The Hoyas are also coming off a weekend filled with cancelled games due to weather. Georgetown has started their season 5-3, picking up wins against Indiana State, South Dakota, UMBC, Saint Joseph's and UNC-Wilmington.
This is the first meeting between the two programs.
MATCHING UP WITH MISSISSIPPI STATE
The Hoosiers' second game on Saturday once again puts Indiana up against a team it has never faced before in Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs are off to a 13-2 start, including winning four of their last five games. Mississippi State picked up 13 votes in the most recent USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll.
FINALE WITH NOTRE DAME
Indiana concludes play in the Citrus II Classic with in-state rival Notre Dame, who has started their year with a 9-5 record, including a 5-3 win over Georgia.
