400 Individual Medley
Steve Schmuhl qualified second overall for the 400 individual medley championship final after going 3:42.31 in prelims. That is an NCAA automatic qualifying time and the fourth-fastest time in IU history. Grayson Smith placed 25th with a career-best time of 3:53.98, while Ethan Curl was 26th with his career time of 3:54.87.
100 Butterfly Max Irwin and Joe Powell make it back tonight for the consolation final of the 100 fly after both posted career bests. Irwin went 47.32 and is the top qualifier for the B final. Powell is 14th overall after a time of 47.60. Nick Wonder is the first alternate for the bonus final, placing 25th in a career-best time of 48.26.
200 Freestyle
Blake Pieroni is tonight's top qualifier in the 200 freestyle after posting a 1:33.83 in prelims. That is the second-fastest time in IU history, just off his school record of 1:33.10 set on Wednesday leading off the 800 free relay. Joining him in the championship final is Jackson Miller who posted a career time of 1:34.96, the fifth-fastest time in IU history. Anze Tavcar makes the consolation final with a career best of 1:35.39. Finishing 38th overall was Yianni Thermos (1:39.01-career best), with Timothy Martin 40th in 1:39.47 (career best).
100 Breaststroke Tanner Kurz nabs the final spot in the championship final of the 100 breaststroke with a prelims time of 53.16. Mike Hurley (53.57) and Cody Taylor (54.04-career best) make the consolation final. Levi Brock took 26th in prelims (54.83-career best), with Jonathan Panchak in 31st (55.55-career best).
100 Backstroke
Ryan Gordon makes the consolation final of the 100 backstroke after going a career best 47.59 in his prelims swim. Bob Glover is a bonus finalist after a time of 47.81. Ali Khalafalla went a career time of 48.78, good for 32nd in the field. Nick Wonder was right behind in 33rd with his career-best time of 48.79, while Curtis Goss took 37th in a career time of 49.25.
