ORLANDO, Fla. - Led by a career outing from junior Kelsey Dotson, the Indiana softball team defeated Lehigh in six innings on Friday, 15-7.
The Indiana bats came up big in the Friday finale as the Hoosiers hit three home runs against Lehigh as the two teams combined for 29 hits in the high-scoring affair. Dotson's seven RBI tied a single-game program record set by Monica Armendarez against Michigan State on April 24, 1996.
The first inning was an action-packed one for both teams as Indiana scored a pair of runs on Blitz' first career RBI triple and a RBI by junior Michelle Huber on a fielder's choice. Lehigh then added five runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-2 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, the Hoosiers put up a six-run effort in the third inning, tying their largest single-inning output all season set against New Mexico on Feb. 14. A pair of RBI singles from sophomore Erin Lehman and freshman Taylor Uden made it a 5-4 game before Dotson knocked out her second career grand slam to give the Hoosiers an 8-5 lead, an advantage they would not surrender.
After Lehigh added a run on an RBI double in the fourth, Blitz hit an RBI single to score Lehman. One batter later, Dotson picked up her second homer of the game, this time a two-run shot to centerfield to make it 11-6 in favor of the Hoosiers.
The Mountain Hawks would add one more run before Indiana ended the game in six innings led by a solo home run by CaraMia Tsirigos', her second of the year. Blitz followed that up with her fourth hit and third RBI of the game before Dotson recorded her seventh RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly, followed by a run scored by Uden on a passed ball to give Indiana the decisive eight-run lead to cut the game short. The Hoosiers' 15 runs scored is the most by Indiana since a 15-7 victory against Bradley on Feb. 9, 2013.
Senior pitcher Lora Olson picked up her second win of the year, surrendering just two runs on 10 hits and one walk in 5.2 innings.
The Hoosiers return to action tomorrow after as they face Georgetown at 1:15 p.m. and Mississippi State at 5:45 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports
