BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana women’s tennis, ranked 24th nationally, heads to Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini on Sunday, March 1 at 1 p.m. ET inside the Atkins Tennis Center.
Due to the expansion of the Big Ten Conference to 14 teams, Big Ten women’s tennis teams will not play a full round robin against all conference foes in regular season play going forward. Each team will play all but two conference opponents during the regular season and every year the two programs each team does not play will rotate.
Indiana will play all of the other 13 Big Ten teams this season, but its matches against Illinois and Northwestern will not count toward the conference standings in 2015.
The Hoosiers are coming off back-to-back wins over ranked opponents (Notre Dame, Tennessee) and are off to a 9-1 start in dual play this season. IU’s No. 24 ITA national ranking is the program’s highest ranking since Feb. 2010.
Illinois sits at 5-2 on the year with its only two losses coming to the hands of top 30 opponents, including a common opponent of both teams already, Notre Dame. All five wins by the Illini have come at home.
In last year’s meeting in Champaign, Illinois topped the Hoosiers, 5-2.
