7 Hoosiers Invited to NCAA Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University men's swimming team had seven student-athletes selected to compete at the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, March 26-28 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Jackson Miller, Steve Schmuhl, Mike Hurley, Ali Khalafalla, Anze Tavcar, Blake Pieroni and Tanner Kurz will represent the Hoosiers at the meet.
Schmuhl leads the way for IU with selection in three events. Schmuhl is the 12th seed in the 400 individual medley, 27th seed in the 200 individual medley and 29th seed in the 200 butterfly.
Pieroni earned the top seeding among all Hoosiers, entering the NCAA meet tied for the second seed in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:33.10. Pieroni is also the 21st seed in the 100 freestyle.
Four of Indiana's seven swimming qualifiers are either freshmen or sophomores.
In addition to the seven individual swimmers, Indiana qualified all five of its relays: 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 800 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.
Yianni Thermos, Sam Lorentz, Bob Glover and Max Irwin will head to the championships as relay-only swimmer for Indiana.
Indiana's diving participants at the NCAA Championships will be determined this Thursday through Saturday at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
