Anderson Seventh After Day One of Heptathlon

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Junior Dylan Anderson opened the heptathlon competition with two career-best marks to carry him to a seventh-place standing and Tre'tez Kinnaird qualified for the 800m final on day one of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Anderson is seventh after four of seven events in the heptathlon with 3147 points. His teammate junior Stephen Keller is 11th in the competition with 3035 points.
Anderson, who finished in fourth-place at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, picked up 715 points for his career best mark of 13.78m (45-2.5) in the shot put. He carried that momentum onto the high jump where he set a personal best of 2.04m (6-8.25) to earn 840 points.
Keller's best point scoring total of the day also came from the high jump, where he matched Anderson with a clearance of 2.04m for 840 points.
Kinnaird, the Big Ten Champion, finished third in his heat of the 800m in 1:48.57 to qualify for the final. Kinnaird's time is the second fastest in school history and only trails his own school record of 1:48.20.
Anderson and Keller will resume competition in the heptathlon with the 60m hurdles tomorrow at 11:45 p.m. ET. Following the 60m hurdles the heptathlon will conclude with the pole vault and 1,000m run.
Kinnaird will run in the 800m final at 8:30 p.m. ET tomorrow and also competing on Saturday will be junior Sophie Gutermuth in the pole vault at 6:30 p.m. ET.
