BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --The Indiana softball team improved to 3-0 at Andy Mohr Field this afternoon with a pair of wins against Wright State and Bowling Green. The Hoosiers, who combined for 17 hits on the day, are now on a three game winning streak.
In the first game of the day, the Hoosiers battled Wright State, who got off to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning after an RBI double by Angie Clark and a run from a wild pitch.
However, Indiana would quickly strike back as the Hoosiers plated three runs in the bottom of the second frame to take a 3-2 lead, an advantage they would not relinquish. Senior Brianna Meyer got the scoring started, scoring on a Raider error. Four batters later, sophomore Erin Lehman knocked a two-RBI double to score Rachel O'Malley and Kassi Farmer.
Lehman continued her impressive streak, going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in the victory against Wright State. Since a Feb. 27 game against Georgia, Lehman is hitting .600 with 18 hits, 10 runs scored and seven RBI in 10 games played.
The Hoosiers would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth off a double by Kelsey Dotson to score Lehman and Rebecca Blitz, followed by an RBI groundout by Meyer.
Meyer would once again bring in Lehman in the sixth off an RBI single to left field to make it 7-2 in favor of Indiana.
Senior pitcher Lora Olson picked up her sixth win of the season, tossing four innings and giving up only two runs on three Wright State hits.
The second game of the afternoon pitted Indiana against Bowling Green, a team the Hoosiers defeated on Thursday, 3-2.
Once again, Indiana started the game down, 2-0, after the Falcons plated a run in the first and third innings.
The Hoosier bats would respond in a big way in the fourth inning as the first four batters of the frame would reach base. After Blitz walked, Lehman hit her fifth double of the year to put runners on the corner for Shannon Cawley, whose single to left field scored Blitz. Next batter up, Michelle Huber scored Lehman on a right field single to tie the game at 2-2. Indiana would take the lead on a Bowling Green wild pitch that brought in Cawley.
Dotson put an exclamation point on the Hoosier victory by sending her sixth home run of the season over the left field fence on a two-run shot to score Alyssa Rosati.
Senior pitcher Miranda Tamayo earned the win in game two, throwing four scoreless innings and giving up just two Falcon hits.
The Hoosiers return to Andy Mohr Field on Sunday afternoon as they face Bowling Green at 4:45 p.m.
