Hoosiers Travel to Tempe for ASU Invite Weekend

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -The Indiana women’s water polo team will travel to Arizona State University for the 2015 ASU Invite on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22. The No. 13 Hoosiers (11-8, 1-0 CWPA) will face No. 15 Long Beach State (12-8) and Hartwick College (11-15) on Saturday, March 21. On Sunday, March 22, the Hoosiers will face the host team, No. 6 Arizona State (13-4), and the University of Redlands (2-15).
The Hoosiers recently returned from a four-game slate at the Aztec Invite at San Diego State University. Indiana went 3-1 on the weekend, opening the first day with a 15-3 win against Whittier College. The Hoosiers lost their match later that day against No. 15 Pacific, but finished the weekend on a high note with an 10-7 upset win over No. 12 San Diego State and a thrilling 10-8 overtime win against No. 20 UC San Diego.
Indiana’s first game on Saturday, March 21 is against No. 15 Long Beach State at 12:00 pm ET. The 49ers are one of the best teams Indiana will play in their non-conference schedule, and have wins over familiar opponents such as Michigan, UC San Diego, San Diego State, and Marist.
The second game on Saturday is against Hartwick College at 6:00 pm ET. The Hoosiers will play the Hawks in a non-conference game this coming weekend, as the two already played their conference game at the Fluid Five in Bloomington. The Hoosiers won that game 15-9 in their home pool.
Indiana opens Sunday with No. 6 Arizona State, the host of the ASU Invite, at 12:20 pm ET. The Sun Devils have won the last five meetings between these teams, but the Hoosiers proved last weekend that they aren’t stifled by previous results, as was the case in their win over San Diego State. Nonetheless, the Hoosiers will take on a tough Sun Devil squad that boasts six wins over ranked opponents this season.
The final game for the Hoosiers at the ASU Invite takes place against Redlands at 3:20 pm ET. The Hoosiers have won all eight games they’ve played against the Bulldogs in program history, most recently by a score of 15-4.
Sunday’s game against the Bulldogs will conclude non-conference play for the Hoosiers’ 2015 season. Following the ASU Invite, they will close with a nine-game stretch of CWPA opponents. The Hoosiers are 1-0 in conference play thus far, thanks to their win over Hartwick in the Fluid Five.
