LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Indiana softball team dropped a 6-1 decision to Louisville on Wednesday evening. Junior Katelyn Conenna brought in the lone Hoosier run on an RBI double to score Shannon Cawley in the second inning.
Louisville (19-8) jumped on the board first, scoring a run on a two-out RBI single by Kayla Soles to bring in Maryssa Becker.
Cawley led off the second with a single to left and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from CaraMia Tsirigos before Conenna’s double tied the game.
Conenna has now knocked a hit in the last four games in which she has played and leads the team with a .429 average (6-of-14).
However, the Cardinals would respond with five unanswered runs, including a pair in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Indiana (10-23) would threaten in the sixth inning as Conenna reached on a fielder’s choice and freshman Rachel O’Malley hit a two-out single to left field before Kayla Mathewson went down swinging to end the inning.
O’Malley was the lone Hoosier to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3, marking the third time in the last four games she has knocked two hits.
Becker picked up the victory for Louisville, tossing five scoreless innings in relief and giving up only four Indiana hits.
The Hoosiers will hit the road this weekend for the first road conference series of the season, visiting Illinois for a three-game set starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
