Keller Third, Anderson Fifth at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - Juniors Stephen Keller and Dylan Anderson followed up their All-America heptathlon performances at the NCAA Indoor Championship with top-five and career-best finishes in the decathlon in their first outdoor meet of the season, the Texas Relays on Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Keller finished third in the decathlon with 7149 points and his teammate Anderson finished fifth with 7099 points. For Keller his performance is an improvement of 195 points from his 12th place finish at the 2014 Texas Relays and represents the sixth best total in school history. Keller's 7149 points are the second best mark in the NCAA for the decathlon.
Anderson's 7099 points are the seventh best total in IU school history and an improvement of 218 points from his 13th place finish at the 2014 Texas Relays. Anderson ranks fifth in the NCAA in the decathlon.
After a solid effort on the first day the duo got off to a solid start in the first event of day two, the sixth event overall. Anderson ran 15.37 in the 110m hurdles for 805 points and Keller 15.46 for 795 points.
Both Anderson and Keller took advantage of one of their stronger events, the pole vault. Anderson cleared 4.90m for 880 points and Keller 4.70m for 819 points.
The final and 10th event of the two-day competition came down to the 1500m run and Keller showed his speed by winning the event in a best time of 4:33.34 for 723 points.
On day one of the decathlon, Anderson started with a seventh-place finish in the 100m dash in 10.93 to earn 876 points. Keller was 14th in 11.26 to earn 804 points.
Keller came back strong in the second event of the competition with a career-best mark of 7.02m (23-00.50) in the long jump. Anderson posted a mark of 6.82m (22-04.50).
Anderson picked up 677 points in the shot put with a mark of 13.16m (43-02.25), while Keller earned 631 points for his mark of 12.40m (40-08.25).
Keller finished day one with a third-place clearance in the high jump of 2.05m (6-08.75) and followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the 400m dash in 51.18. He finished day one in fifth-place overall with 3864 points. Anderson finished day one in seventh-place with 3750 points.
Up next junior Terry Batemon will compete in the Texas Relays pole vault and the majority of the Indiana track and field team will compete on Saturday in the Big Ten-Pac 12 Challenge in Tempe, Ariz.
