TEMPE, Ariz. -- The spotlight shined on the Indiana throwers as the hammer and discus were contested on day one of the Big Ten-Pac 12 Challenge on Friday on the campus of Arizona State. Redshirt sophomore Nakel McClinton set a school record in the hammer throw and redshirt freshman Andrew Miller set the third best mark in school history.

McClinton posted her school record mark on her second throw of the hammer throw competition with a heave of 59.66m (195-9). The mark is a career-best by over nine feet and breaks the previous record of 58.46m, set in 2010, by multiple Big Ten Champion Faith Sherrill. Her mark is the 14th best in the NCAA this season.

Miller improved on his career-best by nearly 30 feet and finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 64.13m (210-5). The mark is the third best in IU school history and currently ranks 10th in the NCAA.

The meet will resume tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ET and be live streamed starting at about 9:00 p.m. ET.
