BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's tennis team started the season ranked No. 65 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The Hoosiers are now ranked No. 27.
Coming off two wins on a west coast trip to Seattle, including a win at Washington, the Hoosiers (9-3) host No. 21 Northwestern at the IU Tennis Center on Friday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
"Northwestern is at the top of our conference and one of the best teams in the country." IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "We are going to have to play some of our best tennis to compete with them. We are ready for the challenge and we are looking forward to playing on our home courts and have some great matches."
On Saturday the Hoosiers beat St. Mary's 4-1 and followed that up the same day with a tight 4-3 win against Washington.
Indiana returns home to the IU tennis center, where they are 4-0 including their most recent home win against Oregon.
Wurtzman said one of the keys to the success of the team this season to this point has been their mental toughness.
"I think we have put ourselves in some tough positions and been able to get out of it," he said. "Any time you beat a team on the road it is great, but when you are able to beat a team at the level of Washington is, on their courts, in a tight match, that shows a lot of toughness and competitiveness we have with this group."
On Friday the first 100 students at the match will receive a free IU men's tennis tank top.
"It would be huge for us to get as many people out there as we can, against a great team," Wurtzman said. "Northwestern always comes to play and is going to give us a tough, challenging match. Hopefully we can get a lot of people out there and see some great tennis."
