BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Due to the weather in Bloomington, the Indiana softball team is headed to Kennesaw, Ga. this weekend for the Owl Invitational. There, the Hoosiers will face off against Austin Peay, St. Louis, Eastern Illinois and Kennesaw State. Indiana was originally slated to begin play today, however the schedule was altered because of weather in the South.
Stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com and @IUSoftball for all the latest news and info from Kennesaw.
LAST TIME OUT
Indiana visited the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. last weekend for the Citrus Classic II. Due to a rainout on Saturday, the Hoosiers played just four games during the weekend.
After falling to No. 8 Georgia on Friday morning, the Indiana bats came alive against Lehigh as the Hoosiers took down the Mountain Hawks in six innings, 17-5. Indiana dropped a 7-2 decision to Georgetown on Sunday before losing a tough pitchers' duel with Miami (Oh.), 3-2.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Hoosiers were set to open up home play at Andy Mohr Field this weekend in the Indiana Classic. However, Mother Nature had other plans in mind as Indiana is hitting the road again for Kennesaw State. All four teams that were scheduled to play in Bloomington will be in the Owl Invitational, as well as tournament host Kennesaw State.
RECORD-SETTING PERFORMANCE
Indiana's offensive output against Lehigh on Friday was the most runs-scored by a Hoosier team since a 17-5 victory against Bradley on Feb. 9, 2013. In addition, Kelsey Dotson's seven RBI tied a single-game program record set by Monica Armendarez in 1996. The junior hit two home runs in the contest, including her second career grand slam.
FANTASTIC FRESHMEN
Also making their mark in the Lehigh win was freshmen trio Rebecca Blitz, Taylor Uden and Mena Fulton. The group combined for eight hits, eight runs and four RBI in the win.
For the weekend, Blitz hit .429 with six hits, including her first career triple, three runs, four RBI and two stolen bases. Uden picked up four hits, four runs and an RBI. Fulton, who has moved into the starting spot at third base in the last couple weeks, hit .364 with four hits, including two doubles and three runs.
Blitz currently leads the team in batting average (.377) and hits (23), in addition she is tied for fifth in the Big Ten in hits. Fulton is second on the team with a .364 average. Uden is the team-leader in runs scored with 15.
GOING, GOING, GONE
The Hoosiers racked up six homers over the weekend, including three in the Lehigh victory which saw Dotson homer twice and CaraMia Tsirigos hit a solo shot. Tsirigos also hit a solo home run against Georgetown on Sunday. Brianna Meyer and Shannon Cawley both recorded solo home runs on Sunday as well, with Meyer's coming against the Hoyas and Cawley going yard against Miami (Oh.).
GOING AGAINST AUSTIN PEAY
The first Indiana game of the weekend pits the Hoosiers against Austin Peay. After starting the season 1-8, the Governors haven't played a game since Feb. 13 due to weather cancellations.
This is the second meeting between the teams with Indiana picking up an 8-3 victory in 2005.
BATTLING THE BILLIKENS
The Hoosiers' second game on Saturday is against St. Louis, who has started its season 7-6. The Billikens went 3-2 last weekend in the Lion Classic Scramble, picking up wins against SEMO, Southeastern Louisiana and UT Martin.
This is the 10th time the two teams have squared off with Indiana holding a 7-2 series lead. St. Louis did win the most recent matchup, a 4-3 decision in 2013.
PITTED AGAINST THE PANTHERS
The Hoosiers open up Sunday play in the Owl Invitational with Eastern Illinois. The Panthers are off to a 4-8 start with wins against Incarnate Word (2x), Winthrop and Butler.
The Panthers are Indiana's most familiar opponent this weekend with the teams having playing 40 times prior. Indiana leads the series, 28-12.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Indiana's final game of the weekend comes against tournament host Kennesaw State. The Owls are off to a 10-5 start, including a 9-8 win over then-No.5/6 ranked Kentucky on Feb. 14. Kennesaw State has won their last five games.
The Owls lead the all-time series against the Hoosiers, winning a 3-1 game in 2008.

QUEST FOR 1,000

WHAT ELSE IS ON TAP FOR 2015?
The Hoosiers will kick off the home portion of the year with their annual Hoosier Classic next weekend, squaring off against North Dakota State, Wright State, Bowling Green and IPFW.
Other non-conference matchups for the Hoosiers include Kentucky (March 18), Louisville (March 25), Ball State (April 21) and Indiana State (April 28).
Indiana opens up Big Ten play at home on March 20 against Rutgers. Other home Big Ten battles include Maryland, Purdue and Michigan State. The Hoosiers will face Illinois, Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State on the road.
The 2015 Big Ten Tournament will take place May 7-10 in Columbus, Ohio.
