KENNESAW, Ga. - Behind four different Hoosiers recording multiple hits in the game, the Indiana softball team defeated Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon, 10-7.
Sophomore Erin Lehman went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Her three hits tie a career high set last weekend against Lehigh.
After the Governors (1-11) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the top of the second, the Hoosiers (4-16) responded with a five-run inning of their own, sparked by freshman Mena Fulton's first career home run, a three-run shot to left field. Next batter up, Lehman hit a triple and advanced to home on an Austin Peay error. An RBI on a fielder's choice by Kelsey Dotson tied the game up at 5-5.
Indiana added three more runs in the third inning off of a Lehman RBI double and a two RBI single from Rachel O'Malley. O'Malley recorded two hits in the game, matching a career-best for the freshman.
Kassi Farmer made it a 9-5 Indiana lead before the Governors closed the gap to 9-7 on a pair of solo home runs.
A solo shot by Shannon Cawley, her team-leading sixth of the season, would help seal the deal for Indiana as the Hoosiers picked up their fourth win of the year.
Senior pitcher Lora Olson had a solid outing to get the win, giving up five unearned runs on two hits.
The Hoosiers return to action this evening as they take on St. Louis at 5 p.m. in their second game of the Owl Invitational.
