ROSEMONT, Ill.- The Big Ten Conference announced its postseason awards on Monday, and Indiana junior guard Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell was named First Team All-Big Ten as voted by the coaches and media. Troy Williams and James Blackmon Jr. earned honorable mention accolades from both the coaches and media as well.
Blackmon Jr. was also named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team, as voted on by the conference coaches.
Kevin Yogi Ferrell's inclusion on the first team marks the 70th time that Indiana has had a player receive first team honors and it is the first since Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo were both named to the first team in 2013.
The Indianapolis native is averaging 16.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game this season. In conference action, his averages were 15.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and a Big Ten-best 5.2 assists per game. He is 26th on the IU career scoring list 1,320 points and is one of five Indiana players all-time to have 1,000 career points, 400 assists and 300 rebounds.
Williams, a sophomore from Hampton, Va., ranks third on the team in scoring (13.2) while his 7.1 rebounds per game lead the team and ranks fourth among all Big Ten players. In conference play, Williams averaged 7.7 rebounds per contest, which ranked third and shot 54.1 percent from the floor to rank fifth in that category. He posted five double-doubles on the season as well.
Blackmon Jr., ranked eighth in scoring (15.8) and sixth in 3-point field goals made per game (2.3) among all Big Ten players this season. The Marion, Ind., native was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice this season and is a finalist for the Wayman Tisdale Award, handed out to the nation's top freshman. Blackmon has made 69 shots from behind the 3-point line this season, one shy of tying Eric Gordon for the most made by an IU freshman in a season.
Receiving the team's Sportsmanship Award is redshirt junior Nick Zeisloft. The transfer from Illinois State led the Big Ten in 3-point field goal percent (51.4) during conference games and has averaged 14.4 points per game over the final four games. The Sportsmanship Award is awarded to a player on each conference team and is selected by each team.
Indiana, the No. 7 seed, will play its first game at the 2015 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament on Thursday, when they take on No. 10 seed Northwestern at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
