Sowers Goes B1G Again

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Indiana outfielder Logan Sowers earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the second consecutive Monday, sharing honors with Michigan State's Alex Troop, the league office announced today.
Sowers guided Indiana to a 4-0 record over the weekend, batting .467 with his first career home run and team highs of 10 total bases, seven hits, five RBI and a .667 slugging percentage.
The Lafayette, Ind., native's first home run came with IU in a 3-0 hole vs. Villanova in the sixth inning. The two-run shot propelled the Hoosiers to a 4-3 win to start the weekend.
Sowers matched his career high with three hits in IU's 8-6 win vs. Dartmouth on the same day, two of which came in the Hoosiers' seven-run second inning, when he posted a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored. He also singled and stole home in the seventh inning to push IU's lead to 8-6.
The 2014 Mr. Indiana Baseball honoree leads Indiana in total bases (25), hits (17) and is tied for the IU lead with three stolen bases through 12 games.
Sowers' recognition marks Indiana's 20th weekly conference honor since 2013 and third this season. The Hoosiers earned 11 such accolades in 2014 and six in 2013.
