FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- A crowd of 3,200 took advantage of the nice spring weather to watch Indiana post a 2-1 overtime victory over Notre Dame at the Shindigz National Soccer Festival spring match at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Sophomore Tanner Thompson tallied the game-winning goal for Indiana in the 101st minute with a shot from 20 yards out through traffic. Michael Galullo assisted on the play with Galullo playing the ball to Thompson as he ran down the center of the pitch.
Freshman Austin Panchot had an early shot bounce off the cross bar, while a shot from freshman Cory Thomas sailed high. Goalkeeper Colin Webb parried away the first attempt of the day off the foot of Notre Dame's Danny Lojek.
Notre Dame broke through with just its third shot of the half in the 32nd minute and with Webb pulled out it was a header off the line from Derek Creviston that kept the Fighting Irish off the board.
The Fighting Irish got on the board first in the 57th minute when Patrick Hodan took advantage of an Indiana defensive miscue, getting on the end of a cross from Max Lachowecki for the goal.
The lead wouldn't last long as just over a minute later freshman Cory Thomas was in the right place at the right time, tapping in a rebound off Notre Dame goalkeeper Brian Talcott. The assist went to Thompson, as it was his initial shot that was saved by Talcott.
With under six minutes to play in the first overtime a Thompson corner kick found its way into Grant Lillard in the box but the freshman's header went wide left.
Indiana finished with a 16-9 shot advantage, led by five from Thompson. Thomas added three shots to the tally.
The Hoosiers are back in action next Saturday as they take on the Butler Bulldogs at 7 p.m. ET Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. Admission is free.
