BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana women’s tennis team, ranked 48th nationally this week, will wrap up its 2015 regular season schedule this weekend with a pair of Big Ten matches. The Hoosiers will travel to Wisconsin on Friday, April 17 to take on the Badgers at 4 p.m. ET and then will return home to host Minnesota on Sunday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m.
This final weekend will determine where the Hoosiers will be seeded in next week’s Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament hosted by Northwestern. IU has already guaranteed its place in the tourney (top 10 teams qualify), but will have to see how things shake out in the league in the next few days for seeding.
Indiana (14-7, 5-4) is currently in a four-way tie for fifth place in the conference standings with Purdue, Michigan State and Minnesota. The Hoosiers hold the seeding tiebreaker advantage over MSU as Purdue holds it over Indiana due to head-to-head results. Sunday’s match against the Golden Gophers will determine who holds the upper edge in a tiebreaking scenario if both teams end up tied in the final standings.
Sunday’s home match will be the final time that seniors Carolyn Chupa, Alecia Kauss, Katie Klyczek and Shannon Murdy will suit up for the Cream and Crimson for a match in Bloomington.
Wisconsin (10-9, 4-5) also is guaranteed a spot in next week’s conference tournament and too will be looking to improve its seed this weekend. The Badgers are tied for ninth place in the league standings with Illinois.
Minnesota (15-8, 5-4) will also look to improve its seed. The Gophers will battle Purdue at home on Friday before taking on the Hoosiers on Sunday. Each of Minnesota’s matches this weekend are against opponents who are tied with it in the standings.
