BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana track and field team will send three athletes to compete in the 5,000m run at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., and a larger group will travel to Champaign, Ill., for the Illini Twilight meet on Saturday.

The Hoosier trio of Amanda Behnke, Evan Esselink and Matt Schwartzer are set to compete in the 5K at Mt. Sac. Earlier this season Behnke and Esselink ran top-10 times in program history at the Stanford Invitational.

The Hoosiers continue to work their way towards the post-season and look to qualify athletes for NCAA Regional competition in Jacksonville, Fla., May 28-30. In order to qualify one must be in the top-48 in their event in the east region (24 for relays). Once at the regional meet, the top-12 advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore. Currently the Hoosiers have 27 athletes in the top-48 of an individual event.

Last week at the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, three Hoosiers set times/marks in the top-10 in program history. Brianna Johnson ran the sixth fastest time in school history in the 1500m (4:22.48), Mackenzie Bollinger ran the eighth fastest time in the 400m Hurdles (1:00.73) and Terry Batemon cleared 5.25m in the pole vault, which tied for the ninth best performance in school history.

After this weekend the Hoosiers have the Penn Relays and Drake Relays (April 23-25) next week, the Billy Hayes Invitational (May 2) at home the following week and the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in East Lansing, Mich., May 15-17 before the NCAA East Regional.
