ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Despite an impressive pitching performance by senior Lora Olson and a 3-for-3 effort from freshman Rebecca Blitz, the Indiana softball team dropped game one of its Saturday doubleheader to No. 4 Michigan, 3-0.

The game marked the fifth time this season Blitz has recorded at least three hits in a game.

Olson threw 6.0 innings, giving up just three runs and one walk in her sixth complete game of the year.

Blitz led off the game for Indiana (14-30, 5-9 B1G) with a single up the middle. After picking her 11th stolen base of the season, she advanced to third on a fly out in foul territory by senior Shannon Cawley. However, an Indiana groundout ended the threat.

Neither team could string together more than one base runner as the game remained scoreless until the bottom of third when back-to-back Michigan doubles plated the first run of the game. After Abby Ramirez belted a double to left, she scored on Sierra Lawrence’s right-center double. Next batter up, Sierra Romero blasted a two-run shot to right-center to make it 3-0 in favor of the Wolverines.

The Hoosiers looked to end the shutout in the fifth as pinch-hitting sophomore Kayla Mathewson hit a two-out single to left, followed by Blitz’ third single of the game off Michigan pitcher Haylie Wagner’s glove, but Indiana went down on strikes.

After a pair of singles by Tera Blanco and Aidan Falk to start the Michigan sixth inning, a flyout and double play turned by freshman Rachel O’Malley and sophomore CaraMia Tsirigos put an end to the frame.

Tsirigos hit a one-out single to center field in the final inning, but the Hoosiers couldn’t capitalize as Indiana was shut out for only the second time this season.

Wagner pitched a complete game for the Wolverines, giving up just five hits and a walk while striking out five Hoosiers.
