BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana women’s tennis team will return home for the first time in nearly a month with a pair of Big Ten matches this weekend. The No. 58 Hoosiers host No. 43 Michigan State on Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m. ET and then on Sunday, April 5 will take on No. 14 Michigan at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday will mark IU’s first home match since March 7. During an 18-day stretch, beginning with the team’s trip to Purdue on March 13 through last weekend’s trip to Ohio State, the IU women’s tennis team was on the road for 15 days. Other stops during that span included a spring break training trip to Las Vegas and matches at Nebraska, Iowa and Penn State.
As the calendar turns to April, the Hoosiers will play five Big Ten matches at home during the month. Indiana (11-6, 2-3) is 6-2 in home matches in 2015 and Saturday will be IU’s first home conference match of the year. Indiana will also host Maryland on April 11, Rutgers on April 12 and then the regular season finale on April 19 vs. Minnesota.
MSU (16-3, 5-1) will arrive in Bloomington having won seven of its last eight matches. Saturday will begin a five-match road trip for the Spartans.
Michigan (15-3, 6-0) has yet to lose a Big Ten match this season. Each of U-M’s three losses came to the hands of top-15 teams, including two in the top 10. The Wolverines have two players ranked in the top 30 in the latest ITA National Singles Rankings in Emina Bektas (No. 23) and Ronit Yurovsky (No. 26). Michigan also has two doubles tandems ranked nationally in Bektas and partner Alex Najarian (No. 12) as well as Yurosvsky and partner Sarah Lee (No. 58).
