Brad Hartong's (senior) sacrifice bunt placed Nick Ramos in scoring position and Scott Donley (senior) blasted an RBI single up the middle to provide the go-ahead fifth run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Indiana secured a sweep vs. Ohio State on Friday evening at Bart Kaufman Field, winning the finale, 6-4.
Will Nolden (senior) added an RBI single in the frame to bring in Donley for an insurance run and the final score.
RHP Ryan Halstead (senior) entered the game in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and zero outs. Two runs scored, but Halstead only gave up three total hits and struck out five batters, finishing the game and earning his second win of the season.
All in all, Indiana recognized all eight of its seniors in between Friday's doubleheader for their contributions to the program. Ricky Alfonso, Donley, Halstead, Luke Harrison, Hartong, Nolden, Casey Rodrigue and Chris Sujka had a hand in Indiana's back-to-back Big Ten regular season and tournament championships, the Hoosiers' run to the College World Series in 2013 and IU's No. 4 national seed in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Friday night, those seniors kept on giving. And they weren't the only ones.
Logan Sowers crushed a grand slam in the third inning to bring in Indiana's first four runs, giving IU a 4-1 lead at the time.
Ohio State did the majority of its damage in the seventh, tying the game with three runs as Halstead weathered the storm. But for the weekend, Indiana was successful in disrupting the Buckeyes' success, stranding 30 total runners on base, including 14 in the series finale.
UP NEXT
Indiana travels to Minneapolis next week for the Big Ten Tournament, beginning on Wednesday, May 20. The Hoosiers' seed and opening opponent is yet to be determined, but should be finalized on Saturday upon the completion of all conference games.
