COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Indiana softball team's season came to an end in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday as the Hoosiers fell to Ohio State, 24-1.
Freshman Rebecca Blitz scored the lone Indiana run as she was brought in on an RBI single by junior Kassi Farmer in the top of the fifth inning.
Ohio State blasted four home runs in the game, including a pair of grand slams by Erika Leonard, who racked up 10 RBI.
The Hoosiers started off the game by loading the bases with one out in the top of the first after a pair of singles by Blitz and senior Shannon Cawley. However, a fielder's choice and a fly out ended the inning.
Behind a 10-hit, 12-run first inning, Ohio State took a commanding 12-0 lead. Cammi Prantl scored the first of three home runs of the inning on a two-run shot. Leonard recorded her first grand slam to make it 11-0 before Taylor Watkins hit a solo homer immediately following.
Ohio State plated a trio of runs in both the second and third innings to extend the lead to 18-0.
The Buckeyes added six more runs in the fourth off a bases-loaded walk, RBI single by Maddie Marotti and Leonard's second grand slam.
Indiana ends the 2015 season with a 17-39 overall record. Thursday's game marked the final contest in the Indiana careers of seniors Lora Olson, Miranda Tamayo and Brianna Meyer.
