NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- -- Indiana University senior golfer Elizabeth Tong saved her best round for the final round as she carded a 71 on Saturday to finish tied for 31st at the 2015 NCAA Women's Golf Regional at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Tong posted rounds of 79-74-71 to finish with a 54-hole score of 224. The top six teams (Duke, Wake Forest, UC Davis, Arizona, Tulane and Purdue) qualified for the NCAA Championship at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida (University of South Florida, host), May 22-27.
Also qualifying were the top three individuals not on those six teams. It took a 219 to make a three-way playoff for the final individual qualifying spot, won by Kentucky's Isabelle Johansson. She joins Memphis' Michaela Fletcher (217) and Idaho's Leilanie Kim (218).
Tong was solid from the start, making par on the first four holes before carding her first birdie of the day on the par-3 14th hole. She carried that momentum into the next hole, needing just three strokes on the par-4 15th hole.
After making the turn at -2, Tong's steady play continued with a run of pars from holes one through eight. Her only bogey of the day came on the final hole with a four on the par-3 ninth hole.
Tong wraps up her Indiana career with her eighth top-35 finish this season and her seventh under-par round of the year. She tallied an astounding 36 top-50 career finishes and posted finishes of tied for 26th and tied for 31st in her two NCAA Regional appearances.
